I was lucky enough to be a professional basketball player for the Timberwolves, but I owe what I am today to countless hours of practice and time on the court as a kid. It all started with fitness when I was very young. Coming from a large family (I was one of six children), being active was an integral part of my childhood. It shaped me and shaped my career.

Today, social media and video games dominate. Children should embrace the fresh air, not cut off in front of the TV. Here are my five best tips on how to get your kids up, active, and ready for success.Use smart watch kids to record.

1. Spend time outside
In my opinion, the best step a parent can take is to involve their child in extracurricular activities from an early age. Playing tag with friends in the park as a kid not only honed my athleticism through basketball and football, but also gave me a lot of time outdoors.

2. Encourage healthy eating
Keep up with fitness and healthy eating habits. One of the most important things to instill in a child is healthy eating habits. Healthy doesn't have to mean boring. My family cooks traditional Caribbean food, which always includes vegetables. We also like to eat fruit instead of candy. Not sure how to start healthy eating with your family? 3. Embrace organized movement
Exercise has always played an important role in my life. Even when I was too young to actually play, I attended basketball camps that my dad ran for drills and fun activities. Being there, feeling the energy and excitement, got me interested in being active. Now, I set up my own summer camp to give kids the opportunity to play organized sports, which I think is the most important part of childhood.

get involved
When I was growing up, my father and mother were always involved in my activities—whether it was my mother watching me run or my father rebounding for me on the court. They understand the importance of leading by example and are always involved, which makes us even more eager to succeed.

5. Watch sports together
If you want to kill time in front of the TV, listen to sports. Watching games with my dad as a kid helped me fall in love with basketball. We talk about different moves, styles, players, which interests me a lot. Instead of watching cartoons with your child, invite them to sit down and watch the game. You'll have time to network, support the same team, spark their interest in life, and adopt an active lifestyle.
