In a study of 75 volunteers, Schmidt et al. showed that noise exposure caused mental stress and disrupted sleep, and compared with the normal group, the noise exposure group had decreased endothelial function and increased epinephrine concentration, both of which in the long run can lead to hypertension. Living and working in high noise environment for a long time is very harmful to human health. The World Health Organization has listed noise as one of the risk factors of essential hypertension.
